I really need to watch the first 3 movies...everyone seems to dig them

The standard line is that the first movie was amazing and the other two sucked. I liked all three.

My wife loved them but I was in and out, mowing the lawn and doing laundry and such..I owe them a look

You can see the original in a theater on 8/30

I know most will disagree, but i think the second and third movies are unfairly maligned.

When the first movie came along there had been nothing like it. It practically created a whole new genre. The look and feel of the movie, the costumes, sunglasses, phones etc. It created a whole new look. Even the colour palette was different. And as a result it was copied endlessly and became a whole new style. And it was parodied on TV and in other movies.

As a result...in my opinion when the sequels came along we had tired of it all. What once seemed new and fresh was suddenly old hat, seen it all before.

On their own terms the sequels are not terrible movies, they just seem so when you compare them to the original.

I saw similar pattern with Anthonly Hopkins and Silence Of The Lambs. A very good movie, but the character became a household name...everyone was doing THAT line, comedians and impressionists were doing him, and TV and films were parodying him. So by the time the sequels came around it just all seemed too camp and no longer had any impact.

I rate the second and third movies only slightly less than the original, 9/10 for The Matrix and 8/10 for each sequel.

I don't know how I feel about this, if Hugo Weaving returns it could be interesting.
