A Quick List of Foreign Movies I Made for a Friend

These are all movies I've seen over the last few years either streaming on Netflix/Amazon or on the cable movie channels. I'm sure I've left many out, but its a start.

Russia - "9th Company", "How I Ended This Summer", "The Return" and "Leviathan."

France - "Intimate Enemies", "Raw," "The Night Eats the World."

Colombia - "La Sirga."

Estonia/Georgia - "Tangerines."

Netherlands - "Winter in Wartime."

Cuba - "Una Noche."

Israel - "Zero Motivation", "Lebanon."

Canada/France - "Incendies."

Spain - "1898, Our Last Men in the Philippines."

Denmark - "Land of Mine."

Norway - "Kind of Devils Island", Oslo August 31st", "Troll Hunter."

Poland - "Essential Killing."

Soviet Union - "Come and See." (Very disturbing)

Bosnia and Herzegovina - "No Man's Land."

Come and See is my favorite on your list and is a truly powerful film!

reply

That movie stuck with me for a while. Even the trailer is powerful in itself.

If you have a preferred genre, I can maybe recommend one. A lot of them are military themed, which I know is not everyone's cup of tea.

I've never seen an Italian Horror Movie. By all means, post a few recommendations if you'd like.

Thanks, I'll look into them. My heritage is Italian, so I'm intrigued.

I love Italian horror as well and I would like to recommend Man From Deep River (1972) directed by Umberto Lenzi. It’s the movie they say kicked off the Italian Cannibal craze but it’s more like an adventure love story. Lenzi is famous for his zoom shots and this one is full of them and an amazing score.

reply

Kasper, House is a favorite of mine as well! That’s such an unique movie and anyone who has not seen it should give it a try. Im glad to know you like Italian horror.

reply

Wow, thanks for the list. I haven't seen any.

reply

I wish I kept track of what movies I've seen over the years so it would be easier to recommend them to those who are interested.

reply

9th Company is good one 👍

reply

Then you would probably like Intimate Enemies.

Young lieutenant Terrien takes command of an outpost in Algeria, a country fighting for its independence from France. He befriends a local young boy joining his platoon and a disillusioned veteran. War and its atrocities will quickly put his moral values to the test. Based on historical facts, Intimate Enemies presents a very contemporary look at war, exposing the process which can bring soldiers to torture prisoners or allies to become enemies

Thanks, I might give it a go sometime 👍

Sweden - "Easy Money."

reply

I'll check it out. Joel Kinnaman is a good actor.

reply

"Easy Money 2: Hard to Kill" is pretty good as well.

reply

If I enjoy the first one, I will most definitely follow up with the sequel.
