Going by a list of 3-5 events that occured in that year. Please try not to just Google. When giving your answer please state what events brought you to your answer. I'll start.

1. Mikhail Gorbachev sworn in as General Secretary of the Communist Party in the USSR.

2. Ronald Reagan begins his second term.

3. The Greenpeace vessel "Rainbow Warrior" is bombed and sunk by French agents.

4. Live Aid pop concerts in London and Philadelphia raise millions for famine relief.

I was pretty sure live aid was '85...but Reagan was re-elected in '84...so in January of '85
He would have begun his second term👍

I would go with 1972 - he won a landslide election in November 1972 and Watergate wasn't on the radar and gas was still cheap.
