Going by a list of 3-5 events that occured in that year. Please try not to just Google. When giving your answer please state what events brought you to your answer. I'll start.

1. Mikhail Gorbachev sworn in as General Secretary of the Communist Party in the USSR.

2. Ronald Reagan begins his second term.

3. The Greenpeace vessel "Rainbow Warrior" is bombed and sunk by French agents.

4. Live Aid pop concerts in London and Philadelphia raise millions for famine relief.

Challenger explodes, sadly killing all seven astronauts on board
Critters and Hoosiers were released in this year.
Mike Tyson won his first boxing title. Youngest heavyweight champion of all time.

The 'Devil's Cigarette Lighter' ignited in Algeria. John Glenn could see it from orbit the next year before Red Adair & crew snuffed it out.

'Supercar' in Superanimation debuted. I can't recall ever watching it, I do remember Thunderbirds & re-runs of Fireball XL5.

I might match you on spaceflight & aircraft lore, but my history knowledge tends to be fairly narrow bands of interest.

I also enjoy 'what if' scenarios: What if;
Custer took along Gatling guns, with their slow, heavy wagons?

A Luftwaffe crew had found their target instead of getting lost, indiscriminately dumping their bombload (directly over blacked-out London, a verboten target) & wending their way home?

The Captain of the Titanic actually throttled-back significantly in the fog?

The Captain of EITHER the Stockholm or Andrea Doria said "Screw 'em, let them get out of our way."

The French cavalry had rolled-up the English Longbowmen at Agincourt?
