Serious question - Is it OK for a white person to dress up as Black Panther for Halloween?

I'm not talking browning up their skin to look like T'Chala but putting on a Black Panther suit itself.

You KNOW this is going to be the clickbait outrage this upcoming Halloween and so we should consider it all just now and take amusement when it finally comes together.

Yes...race/color/gender/etc. shouldn't matter for any superhero.

Why not?

reply

Yes, just like it would be ok for a non-white person to dress as Superman, Batman, Spiderman, etc.

I'm glad the comments have been towards the positive on this question. I made a similar observation earlier but then deleted because I feared blowback from purists and fanboys.

If Mary Jane and Perry White can be played by black actors and people (even black people) are told 'Deal with it racist'. Then there's no problem with Black Panther being a Halloween costume for Asian, Caucasian, I forget the other race name and pets.

Anyone who complains is a racist and also likely a hypocrite and should 'Deal with it'.

No doubt some will say 'But, but, but. BLACK Panther.'

Counter argument.

'Black Widow'

As Croft wisely pointed out, why not?

You can dress up in the suit. There’s no problem with that. πŸ‘πŸΎ
