My favorites of 2017

Blade Runner 2049- A sequel that could have easily been awful. It is better than the original and I do not say that lightly.

Shape of Water- Del Toro's best since Pan's Labryinth. Confirmation for me he would do a great Bioshock film.

Logan-A truly amazing end to one of my childhood heroes. Hugh Jackman put a potent stamp on Wolverine. He will not be forgotten. He will always be my Wolverine.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri- A movie that does not go where you expect in the best possible way.

Star Wars the Last Jedi- I know controversial opinion. I thought it took Star Wars in a new direction and it just worked for me. Flaws sure but I like venturing into new territory.

Disaster Artist- Really gives you appreciation for the room beyond being jut a memorably bad movie. As bad as the room was it was a passion project. Therefore you can respect Tommy for carrying on with his vision. See your dreams through what matters is you tried. Attempting something is far more respectable than being a couch quarter back.

War of the Planet of the Apes- One of the best third entries I have ever seen. Not what you would expect going in but such a solid character piece. The visuals continue to be breathtaking and although it is a very dark film it is still quite fun and engaging. Tough thing to do in a dark film.

Get Out-A film which could have been extremely ham-fisted in its message. Instead it ended up being a very unique take on the horror genre.

Lady Bird-A solid coming of age story. Saoirse Ronan is most certainly a rising star in the making. She has charm and after seeing Brooklyn and this I am a believer in her talents.

Dunkirk-Much like Gravity it is completely visual but definitely a breath taking experience. I can understand how some would not enjoy it but I found it rather good.

Baby Driver-Edgar Wright continues to give stylistic action movies that are both fun and sweet.

It-A remake that is better than the original. One of the few times this ever happens.

The Big Sick-A romance movie that is sweet and has a lot of great comedy as well as chemistry between the leads.

Wind River- Showcases cultural barriers quite nicely. It brings to you a lot of reality bombs which make you realize justice does not serve people as well as it should.

Honorable mentions go to

Atomic Blonde
John Wick 2
Wonder Woman
Spider-man Homecoming
Lego Batman
Mother!
