How times have changed

When I was a kid me and my friends would play outside all the time. In the summer it was stuff like hide and seek, tag or going to the river to swim. In the winter it was snowball fights and building snowmen. Now when we go to visit our grand-kids one is playing video games on the big screen TV and the other one is waiting for her turn to play. I am glad I did not have all those video games to play as a kid. I to may have spent all my time inside playing video games instead of outside getting exercise.

The biggest change is the 24 hour bombardment of "news." So many old people are addicted to 24 hour cable "news", which is mostly negative, political and often fake; and they in turn become very negative or political. The older people in my family have Fox News on all the time and they are so unhappy. They should go out and play but they sit in front of the tv all day becoming brainwashed and miserable.

I agree, but I don't blame video games - I had an Atari when I was young and I loved it (yes I'm a hundred years old). I also went outdoors a lot. I would like to say the reason for the lesser outdoor activities is because I grew in a different time, but it's not that either.

It generally isn't safe to leave children to play alone on the streets. But parents aren't willing, or aren't able, to take their kids out and watch over them while they're playing. They won't get on bikes and ride with them. They won't go to parks and swing on the swings with them. And that's not me hating on parents - I know how busy parents are in this economy (although I know some of them are just busy ranting on Facebook lol). But that's why they buy their kids games, because they won't or can't be outdoors with their kids as much as they need, and they won't let their kids be alone outdoors.
