Scorsese or Spielberg?

Which do you prefer?

I like both.

How about "Close Encounters"? Rich in techno-speak, somewhat chilly, flouts family-values, doesn't have especially cute aliens, an air of mystery permeates every frame (and is maintained beyond the ending), the main character is flawed, selfish and frankly weird ... in all honesty, this feels like a Kubrick homage more than "AI" ever did.

Yup, same here. Why choose?

Neither one has ever made a successful comedy. Spielberg tried with "1941." Scorsese did "After Hours," which I really like, though do not consider it a laugh riot.

I think if these men excel at any kind of humor it's the dark kind: a T-Rex eating a guy on a toilet; Joe Pesci beating up Don Rickles with a telephone.

Their sledgehammer approaches go well with dark humor.

Depends on the movie. Probably lean more towards Spielberg, tho, on account of having more movies that I've seen and really enjoyed. 🙂

Scorcese is more to my taste.
Spielberg is more of a sentimentalist, which isn't really my thing.
