Since exorcist 3 is already taken I'm gonna go with this one from A Tale of Two Sisters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEffTArhTFM but the guy behind the diner in Mulholland Drive is pretty good too.

Awesome scene. I never watched the original version... maybe I should.

reply

I highly recommend it. It's a mind fuck of a movie.

I watched a remake, and after knowing the "twist", I wasn't sure what good would it do to watch the original. But after seeing this scene you posted, I'm leaning towards watching the original.

The Ring, when the light shines over the father, no music cue or any loud bang just a visual shock to add immediate tension to the scene

Difficult to say if you've seen a movie multiple time, as those jump scares are not as effective anymore. But I remember that in I Know What You Did Last Summer Anne Heche suddenly appearing at Jennifer Love Hewitt's car got a huge jump and laugh in the theater.

Some great ones here. Since I have a bad memory when it comes to things like that, I'll go with one that is most recent in my mind. Nocturnal Animals, with the phone and the baby in the crib (can't find it on Youtube). It really got me, because I wasn't expecting a jump scare in this film, at all. (I hope this isn't a big spoiler). And I still can't figure out it's purpose.

reply

Yeah that got me as well, especially as it was so unexpected.

'Under the Shadow' also has a good one, It's a window scene.

INLAND EMPIRE, lamp arcing.

Lights Out did the jump scare thing the right way. It was never corny, or cheesy. They didn't do the 'toast pops out of the toaster' jump scare which is bullshit and always makes me roll my eyes.

Lights Out is a movie where you see the ghost only when the lights are out. Once you turn them on, the ghost is rendered harmless. So when it's dark, you'll see the ghost move forward and coming to attack and then right when it gets to it's intended victim, the lights will come on. FUCK! You will jump the fuck out of your seat. No joke, dude!

reply

Agreed. Lights Out gave us a warning that a jump-scare is coming (by showing the ghost closer and closer) and it was still scary. Well done.
