UPDATE: Archives, Pages, & more

I’m excited to announce MovieChat’s latest update which includes:

1. Virtually complete Movie and TV Show archives - thanks to the archive data that has been made public, our archives for movies and tv shows are now virtually complete. It was a complex task to integrate these archives with our existing posts here, and took longer than expected, but having the full archives alongside our existing content is well worth it. All existing MovieChat posts should have been preserved, but if you notice anything missing just let me know. (I backed up the entire site before the integration, so nothing is lost.)

2. No more endless scrolling - pagination has now been added!

3. Post Count - your post count now appears beside your username whenever you post

4. Easily identify the original poster (OP) in a thread - the OP’s username is now bolded

There are a few more minor changes that you’ll see as you’re browsing the site (kudos to whoever can first spot them). Apologies for the downtime today, but it was necessary to get the updates up and running. And as always, with major updates there is the chance that a few bugs slipped through. If you notice anything weird, just let me know. More updates on the way!

Thank you Jim

Jim, do you have plans to also bring over the archived IMDb posts from the people (actor, director, etc) boards?

reply

They are here. I see actor boards popping up all the time in the trending section. Hell, even Jesus Christ has his own board on here LOL 😂😂

reply

I mean the archived IMDb posts, not just the boards themselves. I've now edited my post to clarify that.

reply

Again, yes, they are here.

reply

Maybe some, I don't know. But I know that quite a few aren't. For example, here's a board that a lot of posts on IMDb, but none here:

https://moviechat.org/movies/nm0000026

reply

I don't think 100% of the boards made it over (yet?). But Jim said about 6 hours ago that he's still tweaking/working on it. But all the actors and directors in have searched for so far are here with posts that are several years old on them.

reply

All the posts are fully restored on Hashed.io. Your link for Cary Grant is here: https://hashed.io/c179857/cary-grant

reply

Interesting. Thank you for that link.

reply

That link takes me to a blank screen.

reply

Just Google, hashed.io , I found the site that way and also found the actor's posts I was looking for!

reply

Yeah and, Joe Pantoliano hasn't got HIS archived posts either...which really saddens me as HE actually posted on his board! Joe Pantoliano's Board

reply

I found this:

https://hashed.io/c31866/joe-pantoliano

That said, I do wish that all of the archived actor boards were also here at MovieChat.

reply

Yes, thanks hbenthow. 😊 I checked that link when whizkid posted it and found all of the old posts from Joe's board. I was thrilled to find some of his old posts too! 😄

reply

You should try emailing the link to Jim and ask him if he could upload the posts here. 😊

reply

Yes, perhaps I'll do that! 😊

reply

Awesome! Like the boards never left.

I also like the touch of keeping the OP at the top when you go to a different page. Very convenient.

reply

Oh yes this is much better than IMDb.

reply

Yep, I'd read 2/3/4 pages of comments and forget what the original question was. I really like what he's done so far.

Edit: See this is on page 6 already.

reply

Great - thank you!

reply

Im thrilled with what you did, Jim . I am not one for links, and installations of extensions etc. I love that its all in one place..Here. the site you created and worked so hard on..Thanks so much.

reply

Huh. I just found out that IMDb users that didn't make the move to MovieChat don't have the number next to their name. That's very useful, actually. I accidentally reported a few old users before I realized that... On that subject, should we report such posts that the user isn't here to ban, just to delete the offending post?

reply

Why would you want old imdb posts to be deleted?

reply

So they're not clogging up our boards with spam/obscenities...

reply

I agree... also off topic threads on movie boards.

reply

I don't have as much of a problem with those, but I see why some people would.

reply

I personally don't have a problem with them, but they do use space. For example, if I click on some old Hollywood movie, I wouldn't wanna read what someone had for lunch today, posted 5 years ago.

It's not like those old posters will get offended if it's removed. They aren't here anyway.

reply

Good points, lol.

reply

I just wanted to add that there is still a bunch of threads that suffer from the 9-post-limit syndrome. Take the Emma Stone board for example: https://moviechat.org/movies/nm1297015?page=1

Would be nice to those threads fully restored as well.

reply

All Movies and TV Shows are fully restored.

Actors, on the other hand, do still have the 9-post limit as you mentioned. We're currently looking into seeing if there is a way to fully restore actor boards as well.

reply

I hope the actor boards have been archived somewhere, and not just the really famous ones. One of my favorite things was being able to look up a little known or forgotten actor on the IMDB boards as often it was the only place to find any current info about them. It was sometimes surprising to find out that a certain actor had so many fans.

reply

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'd very much appreciate to see the actor boards getting fully restored as well, and I'm pretty sure others would do, too. Not to mention that's something the other imdb archives I know lack entirely (i.e. something to set moviechat apart from the rest of the bunch).

reply

Hi Jim, and thank you again! 😄

Do you think you can get Joe Pantoliano's old boards up? I found a link that has his boards so I know they still exist. Here's the link: https://hashed.io/c31866/joe-pantoliano Thank you!

reply

Hashed.io has most of the actors restored (without a 9 post limit) as well as movies/tv. Here's Emma Stone: https://hashed.io/c320/emma-stone
