Mad Max Fury Road

A lot of people really loved this film. I'm not trying to be a troll, but I thought it was technically brilliant, but a bit on the dull side.

What say you fellow film fans?

reply

5/10 at best. Found it boring as hell

reply

I thought it was a total technical masterpiece. The plot is lame but even George Miller said he didn't really care about it. But on a technical stand point, it was absolutely spectacular and the action was thrilling. Loved it, 8/10.

reply

Good points all. I give it a 7.2.

Thanks all.

It took me two sittings to finish it... the first time I fell asleep. I ended up enjoying it but I didn't get all the best film of the year hype. Maybe I'll rewatch it again one day and see if I get anything more out of it.

reply

Wow. That took fortitude!

reply

I didn't like Tom Hardy in the Mad Max role. I don't think he suits the role. If they couldn't get Mel Gibson as Mad Max, they should have got an unknown.

The film was okay, but the first two Mad Max's were far superior imo. Not technically, but 'story' wise...and the lead, a young Mel Gibson, had much more charisma, which Hardy lacked.

reply

Actually there were three earlier films with Mel Gibson. Mad Max, The Road Warrior, and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome

reply

Yes I know, but I didn't like Beyond Thunderdome....the feral kids story annoyed me. And I hated Mad Max's mullet hairstyle! Ha!

reply

I agree. And Tina Turner seemed out of place somehow.

reply

Totally out of place....and then you had the 'soundtrack' (Tina Turner of course)...it's as if all they were interested was in making big dollars and not the story of Mad Max.

reply

But to be fair, they're ALWAYS interested in making big dollars. They're in it for the money. :-)

reply

Oh to be sure, that's why they churned out Fury Road all these years later....😉

reply

I like Tom Hardy, but maybe he only works for certain types of roles. I haven't seen Mad Max or Road Warrior in ages so I'm not really sure about how the original Max was portrayed. It was liking watching a new movie for me so that part didn't bother me.

reply

It didn't help that he looked alot in the Batman film. Oh and I DEMAND that Mad Max sounds Australian.

reply

Although people forget the charisma of a young Mel Gibson because of all the crazy shit that he said. Doubt the Hemsworth brothers would've done any better than Tom.

reply

Well I think that Chris Hemsworth would have done better than Tom. Couldn't Tom have faked an Australian accent?

In any case, the Hemsworths wouldn't be my choice for Mad Max. I would have cast unknowns for the role.

reply

Australia has had some good talent for such a relatively small population base but staking a $150 million dollar film on an unknown was never going to happen. I just started watching Taboo and Tom Hardy is absolutely brilliant at playing dark tortured souls but he was terrible in This Means War which was the only role I can remember where he played other than that. Yeah, maybe Chris would've been okay but it was always going to be like recasting Rocky with someone other than Stallone.

I think TMW might be good for female audiences but not so much for the males

reply

Yes I guess you have a point. I just thought that the fact that Greg Miller was doing another Mad Max 20 years after the last one was reason enough for him to get all the money he needed to make the film, and also reason enough for it to be a box office hit. Even with an unknown. And to be honest, Charlize Theron was the real star of the film, and not Hardy imo.

I'm not a Hardy fan. He has been great in some roles, but not all like you say. I don't go out of my way to see films because of him, only if the story sounds interesting. He did well as the Kray twins, and I liked him in Taboo too (the series), but haven't really followed his career. I didn't like him in the Dark Knight Rises because of his mumbling.

reply

Charlize is a great actress, one of my favorites as well so I wouldn't argue about that point, but I think Tom is always riveting to watch, if he showed a little more versatility he'd be the natural successor to Marlon Brando or Jack Nicholson. Watch the movie Locke, he kept a movie interesting where essentially all he does is talk to someone on the phone in a car.

reply

I was going to watch Locke but in the end didn't, so it's still in my list of films I have to catch up watch. Oh I'm not disputing he's a great actor, but I still think some actors don't suit certain roles, and other actors do. There's going to be two more Mad Max films, so maybe the best is yet to come in his role as Max.

reply

I can see why. I loved Fury Road, but it's been a year and a half since I've seen it and I noticed that in the last few months I've become really desensitized to action. I haven't seen an action sequence in a long time that was really interesting to me. Actually, Fury Road was the last time action really gripped me. But if you go into that film looking for a great script and not really caring for action, you probably won't find any enjoyement in it.

reply

I have to say though, I only liked the film mainly because of the following two scenes:

And this scene (by the way, look at Tom Hardy and don't tell me he doesn't look just like his character in the Dark Knight Rises):

I thought the film was completely stolen by Charlize Theron.
