I saw someone post an image

So you can track down their IP address like a click bait? Or you mean emojis?

reply

No someone posted an image of a dog

None of those are displaying images for me. I just see the code as plain text.

reply

It appears pictures have been disabled.

reply

I don't know why you would want images on a discussion board.

Use your words.

reply

I agree for the most part. But sometimes a well chosen gif or pic can be better than any words, IMO.

reply

I think it's a lazy way of communicating, myself. Save it for texting.

Suit yourself.

Embedded gifs and images can be funny, and they work for other forums (like sports and fansites), but we also have to remember that more pics/gifs equals more taxing server stress. Soon, the site could become slower as it's loading everyone's avatars, 12mb gifs and sigs. Right now, it seems Jim is voluntarily paying this out of pocket.

I prefer to keep it light. When you look at Reddit, it also doesn't let you display gifs and pics (well, except for the original posts and thumbnails). And it's still one of the most-visited websites in the world right now, because it's light and easy to navigate. All other additional pics and gifs are given through links. I think that's what we should have here, to keep the website running smoothly. If IMDB didn't allow embedded images (and they have billionaire Jeff Bezos money and one of the largest server farms in the world), I don't see how this website could handle that load either.
