If I use moviechat.org's SEARCH... do I provide traffic to IMDb?

I don't want to provide traffic to IMDb, from now on I will use their sister site boxofficemojo and wikipedia.

I wonder if when you use the SEARCH feature on moviechat.org are you providing IMDb with traffic, I don't want to do that.

Thanks in advance.

moviechat.org's search result page communicates with the following IMDb related domains:

media-imdb.com
ssl-images-amazon.com

This is to get the show's images.

Should also mention that media-imdb.com is currently down, which is why some images aren't showing up in search results.

So which is it? If I search on this site do I provide traffic and money to IMDb? Because if so I don't want to use this place. I don't want to provide IMDb any hits or anything. I'm hoping that website takes a major financial hit.

reply

Yes, by using Movie Chat's search feature, you are providing IMDB with traffic. The thumbnails shown next to search results are fetched from either:

media-imdb.com
ssl-images-amazon.com

Both of these are used by IMDB to serve images to their visitors.

That being said, you using Movie Chat's search feature isn't providing IMDb with any money. You are using their bandwidth, which they pay for. As no ads are being served from those domains, IMDb is not making a profit from it.

Still, a hit is a hit. Sucks to know IMDB'll probably try to use it as "proof" people are still using their site.

reply

I should probably clarify, you are not providing imdb.com with traffic. You are providing other domains, used by IMDb, with traffic.

A lot of websites get pictures and other media from a separate server (often referred to as a Content Distribution Network (CDN)). IMDb also does that (media-imdb.com ssl-images-amazon.com). Movie Chat uses those CDNs to display images.

So like, in layman's terms it's the difference from eating at your enemy's house vs. just shopping where he happens to get his groceries from, right?

reply

It's more similar to stealing from his warehouse lol
