... but people, not so much.

Saudi authorities have permitted the use of lethal force to clear land for a futuristic desert city being built by dozens of Western companies, an ex-intelligence officer has told the BBC.

Col Rabih Alenezi says he was ordered to evict villagers from a tribe in the Gulf state to make way for The Line, part of the Neom eco-project.

One of them was subsequently shot and killed for protesting against eviction.

Vanity projects never mature. You would think history would teach aome people

These people have nothing else to do. They’re extremely wealthy thanks to oil. They’re uneducated. And they have an endless supply of slaves. Same thing happens in Dubai.

Absolute Monarchies, am I right?

You just watch. It'll go over just as well as every other "futuristic" city people have attempted to build for the past 40 years: like a lead balloon. People pour tons of money into projects like this, and it always ends up going bust because they discover their designs are not as good or sustainable as they thought, and investors pull out the moment infighting starts. I doubt this "Line" city will be any different.

Its simple.
I want to build a 1km high building spanning 100+ kilometers.
ALL reasonable, good faith, competent architects will say no. There is a limit to concrete and steel. No amount of funding will change that.
So you design it with second hand "yes men" architects.
Result is not hard to predict.
