Yes, it freaked me out as a kid too. I kept thinking about it over & over again and was actually worried the martians (that's what I used to call them) would come get me too.
Anyone who brings up race in a movie clearly is too sensitive to live in the world and probably should become a shut in. How stupid to say that only blacks & "gangsters" can say that stupid word. Newsflash: it's a movie, ya know....pretend?!
Obviously, you know nothing of the culture down there. The horrendously accurate portrayal of the happenings in this movie are extremely realistic. Why pretend that sort of stuff never happens? What, movie makers are only supposed to show whatever is politically correct to pacify the oversensitive weenies of the world?
The NY penal system is a gem compared to my state: Texas. Those boys would've been caught within an hour or less.
