I just watched it myself for the first time. I agree with all your points. I was thinking about this film vs. Full Metal Jacket and how that film had a strong first half followed by a weaker second half and in this film it was the opposite - I felt the first half tried too hard to make us like these soldiers. I agree with you on the religious aspect - all these soldiers praying and the end result is thousands of dead soldiers on both sides. I felt Stanley Kubrick's film dealt better with the dehumanization associated with warfare and don't forget the Sgt. Hartman was also religious but that was handled better in Full Metal Jacket -- Kubrick was a brilliant thinker and philosopher which I think explains the difference. The battle scenes were gripping and I don't doubt the authenticity although some of the NVA tactics seems bizarre to me - for example them charging into the line of fire apparently without firing their weapons? Trump supporters should LOVE this movie because of Al Pacino's Jimmy Hoffa -- while I was watching him have non-stop tantrums if he didn't get his way and calling everyone around him idiot c*cksuckers I was thinking that's Trump! We do know what kind of distance was involved because the Enterprise dumped Kirk on the frozen ice planet close to Vulcan and then traveled for quite some time (hours) before the beaming began. I mean, this is only one of the many issues with this -- how could Scotty possibly know where the Enterprise was in the first place? The beauty of the movie it that explores the complex reasons behind why things are the way they are. The logic was that he had to do it before the drug kicked in because he'd be unconscious and not be able to carry out the act. By the time he would be sure it was lethal it would be too late. And she had the bottle right there so she 100% sure she had just giving him a lethal dose (I looked it up 100mg would not necessarily be fatal but it would be an overdose). He was absolutely fed up with his unloving family of leeches and wanted them all cut off. He had gotten close to Marta and considered her the daughter or granddaughter he wished he had had. I thought an equal number of family members were obnoxiously pro-Trump as well as obnoxiously anti-Trump. They were all awful people. I'm not as old as you, but I'm getting there (48) -- I came to the USA in 1980 before I could speak any English. I didn't see T1 in the theater but one of the first movies I watched in the theater was Star Trek II - still the best Star Trek film ever! I still remember seeing the trailer for Blade Runner before the movie began. Except he said it was his idea. It was James Cameron's decision - you know, the guy responsible for T1 and T2. Conscious decision - I love how it is triggering all the incels. <blockquote>8. Trump's right, we need those new walls stat! The new ones that have wires in them to detect movement or tampering.</blockquote> Yup these walls are impregnable! SAN DIEGO — Smuggling gangs in Mexico have repeatedly sawed through new sections of President Trump’s border wall in recent months by using commercially available power tools, opening gaps large enough for people and drug loads to pass through, according to U.S. agents and officials with knowledge of the damage. The breaches have been made using a popular cordless household tool known as a reciprocating saw that retails at hardware stores for as little as $100. When fitted with specialized blades, the saws can slice through one of the barrier’s steel-and-concrete bollards in minutes, according to the agents, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the barrier-defeating techniques. <blockquote>"I thought, they couldn't find him, if they didn't know what he looked like." Wha?... Sarah did nothing to change what John looked like. He looked exactly the same as he did after T2 at the beginning of this movie before he was killed...</blockquote> Sarah Connor is pregnant at the end of T1 with John Connor. At some point after that, she decides to "go off the grid" because she's afraid new Terminators might be sent back to hunt her down - she also decides not to take any pictures of her son (and probably herself) because she thinks that will mean less information available to the machines in the future trying to hunt her in the present. That is why she has no pictures of him and she is explaining that in this scene. I thought it made sense. Same. I saw T1 on VHS I think. The same place the T800-101 came from in T3. I thought it was perfect. I couldn't tell any flaws it looked totally real to me. The different tech and nomenclature makes sense since these machines are from a totally different machine organization (Legion vs Skynet) - it wouldn't make sense if they somehow copied the naming conventions that never existed. T2 T1 T:DF | T3 (tie) T:GEN T:SAL (The only one in the franchise I didn't enjoy) Ripley : They cut the power. Private Hudson : What do you mean *they* cut the power? How could they cut the power, man? They're animals! Private Frost : Hot as hell in here. Private Hudson : Yeah man, but it's a dry heat! Private Hudson : Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen! Private Hudson : Seventeen *days*? Hey man, I don't wanna rain on your parade, but we're not gonna last seventeen hours! Those things are gonna come in here just like they did before. And they're gonna come in here... Ripley : Hudson! Private Hudson : ...and they're gonna come in here AND THEY'RE GONNA GET US! Private Hudson : I'm ready, man, check it out. I am the *ultimate* badass! State of the badass art! You do not wanna fuck with me. Check it out! Hey Ripley, don't worry. Me and my squad of ultimate badasses will protect you! Check it out! Independently targeting particle beam phalanx. Vwap! Fry half a city with this puppy. We got tactical smart missiles, phased plasma pulse rifles, RPGs, we got sonic electronic ball breakers! We got nukes, we got knives, sharp sticks... 1. Sometimes low income people make poor financial choices. Such as wearing $300 sneakers or buying expensive electronics. Did you notice Arthur chain smoked throughout the whole movie? Smoking is an expensive habit! 2. Perhaps his mother or Arthur got it second hand for not too much money. 3. This is a movie based in a city that doesn't exist - some suspension of disbelief is required. I don't think either is better than the other, just different. I enjoyed both performances. As others pointed out, Phoenix gets 2 hours of screen time here vs much less for Ledger.
