It struck me too. In all the movies I've watched, never a laugh "said something" more than this one. This movie is best watched without any sound, like it was originally made. And, to answer the OP, I would have guessed early 60s. I have the opposite reading : it's not that great visually but it's full of stuff you can think about for years. Best line in the movie, for me. Those are not songs.
If that was the case, then would it class God as a misogynist as Gantry went unpunished?
I think this has been very clear for a long looooong time. My subtitles say: - Boy, he really swings out hot with a mess of jive. Yes it was considered very very bad. You really think people of the past had no taste? What an honour for this couple : https://i.imgur.com/oGDWu1Y.jpg The line is : No, no. I was born in Baltimore. July 6, 1908. I'm 30. https://i.imgur.com/0ZfSzMC.jpg Here it is. I'm sure they named the dog character "Oscar" for good luck.... and it worked! ;) Not at all. The explanation is that is simply was against hotel rules (maybe even against the law), in theses times, to go to a hotel room with a woman that isn't your wife. Sound crazy I know, but it was like that. I saw this in a lot of old movies. I wanted this to be true, but I'm literally going frame by frame (because it's really hard to tell) and she never puts her lips in a way that could form the "W" sound. She forms an "M", like in "I'm (gonn)a send him...". Also, the subtitles say "I'm gonna send him"... but they could be wrong so it's not a proof, more like a clue. "Many artists and intellectuals are somewhat eccentric and quirky." Absolutely. But she's not an artist, nor an intellectual. "George Hardy does a pretty good job playing Joshua's father" dude...
Mildred says "Oh - I'm glad to know you." To which Miriam replies "Oh it's mutual, I'm sure."
Ok. But: If someone is expressing their own feelings, why add "I'm sure"? You're telling your interlocutor that you are "sure" about your own way of feeling? Isn't that idiotic? The person just told you "I'm glad". Why not just answer "Oh it's mutual"? That would mean "I'm also glad". Adding "I'm sure" would be way more logical if you're talking about a third person who is not present, no? - I'm coming to your place for the party. - Oh I'm delighted. My wife will be too, I'm sure. I had the same feeling. It looked and sounded like it was Crosby who said this line, not his character. Haha! I knew it. You surely are a MAGA moron. Lol. Go buy some Trump NFTs. Stay in this lane if you want people to think you are a complete moron. You probably believe in conversion therapy, too.
