even I could figure it out in Jr high that Boo killed Ewell. Which would you rather have, guy who raped his own daughter running around beating up kids etc....
or slightly 'off' boo stopping him and saving the kids.

They probably wanted to balance that out with 'light' stuff.
Plus there is the special effects budget of the early 1960's to consider too. This was when computers far less powerful than a cell phone took up a whole room. so they did not have a lot to work with re 'magic'.
Modern remakes (like charmed!) do more.
there was no awareness that cancer caused smoking then even doctors smoked WHILE examining patients. The cigarette etc companies were trying to appeal to the modern woman by telling her to smoke.

Most people do not remember the season 1 theme. The season 2 theme is what sticks out when people think of Beverly Hills 90210. That and cast additions--adding Luke Perry as Brenda's boyfriend helped the show BIG TIME

There was a reason Avery Brooks''s character was not called Picard or Kirk on star trek deep space nine--but was called Captain Benjamin Sisko. He had his very own distinct name and character/story. I appreciate support and encourage diversity I don't appreciate copying.
my parents were also in their 40's then. They were raising me and my brother and were no longer counter culture--had nice house w stable job which paid the bills.
