that wanted to see Jennifer in the beginning of the film? He was kind of the sketchy guy, he gave the receptionist at the hospital flowers to give to Jennifer? You could tell the film makers were trying to make him seem like the attacker. Russell later killed the man, but we never get to know who he was or why. Movie is full of stuff like this.

That question is the whole reason I came out to MC. I guess everyone here is as puzzled as me. That was very lame that they just killed him off without revealing his motivation. That alone cost some points on my IMDB rating.
