Started watching, but need a little help....

Many years ago I read the book written by Thomas Thompson by this killer, but in watching this series I'm having a hard time going on because in the opening episode it is like they are trying to glamorize this serial killer and turning him into some sort of hip, glossy figure.

Does it get better?

This is the reason I skip most of these kinds of shows/films. A recent (and may I say wonderful) Danish TV show called "The Investigation" is one of the few true crime shows to completely avoid glamorising the killer or the crime. The killer never appears on screen and his name is never even mentioned. The series focuses solely and entirely on the lead policeman and his relationship with the victim's parents.

I finished all episodes. I have never got the feeling that the film is trying to glamorize the killer. On the contrary to me the character in the film matches exactly what the title says, the serpent.

It does get better, so I hope you kept watching. I think they were just trying to show that the couple were charismatic, as otherwise they would not have been able to draw victims in and get away with all that they did.

I would also recommend the show The Investigation mentioned by the previous poster as that is fantastic. I found both to be interesting and worth watching.

No, but he's not even the main character in most of it. The series is dull.
