AMC+ Premieres Gritty Western With A Modern Sensibility https://www.hollywoodinsider.com/that-dirty-black-bag-review-amc/

Dominic Cooper, who you may recognize for his role in the MCU as Tony Stark’s father Howard Stark, plays another ego, Sheriff McCoy, in ‘That Dirty Black Bag,’ a western drama that premiered on AMC+ this Thursday. Douglas Booth stars across from him as the loner bounty hunter Red Bill. Red Bill, who carries a bag of bounties (literal heads) at all times, and McCoy, a sheriff who feels too good for the ghost town of Greenvale, resent each other from the moment they meet. Meanwhile, town soft boy Steve (Christian Cooke) won’t stop preparing his land for rain that never comes, despite tycoon Thompson’s (Paterson Joseph) offers to buy the dead acres off of him.

It all seems rather straightforward in its first twenty minutes, but as this first episode unfolds each character is revealed to have a secret or demon of some kind. By the end of the episode, when Aidan Gillen’s character joins the story, you know better than to trust his simple attitude. In Greenvale, there’s a lot more bad and ugly to be encountered than there is good.

Is it worth watching? Seems mediocre.

I just read the 35/100 review from Reason and decided against watching it. No user reviews on Metacritic or Imdb.

I gotta admit... parts of that trailer looked really fantastic, reminded me a little bit of Bone Tomahawk.

But then... other parts of the trailer reeked of Hollywood wokism (convenient black nobleman, an Asian deputy (LOL), the typical female power broker(s), etc., etc.).

Travis Fimmel looked badass for the few scenes he was shown in, Dominic Cooper looks like he's gunning to put in an award-winning performance, and I don't know who the guy is playing Red Bill but his vocal intonation and threatening behaviour were absolutely spot-on. He still looked a little too... "pretty boy" for what I suspect that role calls for (Fimmel looked more unkempt than Red Bill did), but maybe there's a reason for that?

If Hollywood wasn't so woke I might give this one a try, but I already know they'll manage to squeeze in some feminism, some Rainbow Reich propaganda, some "muh oppression", some "white patriarchy", and some way to undermine any straight, white, masculine male characters to give the pedestal to one of the other diversity hires.

I'll pass for now until the non-fanboy, non-Liberal user reviews are in.
