The ending

Okay i was disappointed and felt like there were places that could have gone further however it's not the worst horror movie out there. Honestly what's got me going crazy is trying to interpret the ending. I thought maybe she was starting to go crazy in the movie and the kids were being mean and only added to it by playing tricks on her. Even Flora started becoming mean to her. The images of the ghosts were all in her head. The scene where they all got in the car and left never happened was just in her head. What was real was her trying to get flora to say she saw ghosts too but flora never did because there never were any. The very last weird trippy vision was when she saw the image of her mom and then got scared when she turned around then end of film. She got scared because when the image of her mom turned around I bet it was her own face. She had become crazy like her mom and wound up in a hospital. Does anyone else have the same theory of the ending or did you have a different interpretation. Want to hear them.

There is no ending, the movie didn’t have one.

The director tried to be pretentious and ignored the ending of the book and tried to change it to make it less certain and more up to the interpretation of the viewer. If it had been done like it was written in the book then it would have ended with the nanny leaving the estate with the two kids, at that point you should stop watching because what comes after that is complete shit that goes off the reservation and make the movie total crap.

Yes I agree with you Stringey. It wasn't the best movie I've seen, but I saw much worse before. I also got that interpretation when she saw the mother at the end it was her basically staring at her mirror image. The all black photos that were sent to her probably meant what anyone would see when they close their eyes, the darkness. With your eyes closed you brain can foster millions of dreamlike visions and images. Maybe that is why she kept leaving the light on while she went to sleep. I guess the "ghosts" that were haunting her could possibly be alternate personalities that she was bringing to surface.

That's a good theory. Maybe she was watching on the hospital tv one of those haunting shows and it was flora and miles story. The children now adults giving the details of their story with reenactment. The way the children looked in the movie and kates fantasy could be the same as the reenactment children in the program. I think the cobain thing was included because that was a prominent memory in her life since it was around the time she was going insane. Seeing and hearing the death of cobain on tv
