This isn’t the “real“ Joker. The Joker killed Bruce Waynes parents and J.P.’s Joker was in the police car. Perhaps the person who killed Bruce’s parents took over as the Joker’s persona.

The Joker never killed Bruce's parents in the comics. It only happened in the 1989 Batman by Tim Burton because they twisted the story.

I kind of agree with you.

When I look at this movie's Joker, I don't really see the Joker. This guy, Arthur Fleck... he's kind of dumb. I have a super hard time seeing a badass criminal mastermind coming out of that simple minded wimp.

The character was badly written but Joaquin Phoenix's acting was great. It's just that the Joker is a genius. And that's not the character he played at all.
