Why is Elle Fanning’s character wearing fishnet stockings to an interview with a much older director?

Because she is naive, inexperienced, and a bit flighty. Young women today often do not dress in traditional businesslike style.

I guess she's supposed to be book smart and not real world smart, but yeah, her character does not seem particularly believable most of the time.
