I would love for it to be as good as The Patriot, because The Patriot for me is a solid 8.5. I think that film is excellent.
I doubt Midway will live up to that one, but I do hope it ends up being good. Emmerich is an uneven filmmaker and you never know what you're going to get from him, but hopefully with this one he'll deliver a hit.
I was surprised to learn he was even attached to this. Seems more like a Clint Eastwood or Peter Berg gig.

But Emmerich will surprise you sometimes, like when he made that Anonymous movie about Shakespeare.
And I felt that was his worst film. Couldn't get into it at all.
shareI've tried to watch it twice and both times I tapped out because I found the plot to be unfocused and hard to follow. I am eventually going to try again just because I find the subject matter interesting.
In any case, it can't be worse than 2012.
Right? I found the flashbacks confusing as hell.
