Interesting concept, let-down ending

I found the long extended scenes kinda interesting.

-The first one at the high school was kinda rough for me. I had a hard time understanding everything Everett was saying to everyone at the high school. (thank gawd for subtitles)
-Fay's switchboard work was cool to watch.
-Everett's conversation with Billy was interesting.
-Mabel carried on too much for me.

The ending was disappointing. Not sure what I was expecting, but I thought it'd be more than that.

Were they beamed aboard the alien ship, or were they vaporized? The film seemed to suggest the latter as evidenced by what appeared to be ashes on and around the tape recorder.

What is the point of just vaporizing them? Sport hunting? If they wanted to kill humans, would think they would attack the basketball game where there were a lot of people to kill. Maybe that is what the director meant, but I don't see the value in it for the aliens other than fun.

Now, I want to know what made Faye decided to drag a baby along while she went hunting for aliens.

I agree, but that was suggested somewhere. As to dragging the baby along, no clue.
