What am I missing?

Let me preface this by saying that I enjoy non-mainstream, art house types of movies. Some of my favorite movies of all time fall into that category. So with all the buzz about "Parasite" and what a masterpiece it is, I was really excited to see it.

I finally watched it, and I'll say I found it mildly entertaining, but nowhere near the masterpiece people say it is. I mean right now, it is number #26 on the IMDB list of the greatest movies of ALL TIME. Are you kidding me? This is the 26th best movie of ALL TIME? I know the IMDB top 250 list is not the best gauge of great movies, but still, for so many people to rate it highly enough to get it to #26, I expected a lot more.

Just look at the IMDB top 250 list. There are movies there that have no business in any "best movies" list ever. That said the Parasite was great but I am not sure why people look at this as non mainstream or arthouse film. The story is quite easy to follow, the messages it carries are not well hidden. This was just a foreign film with some dark humour and serious undertones but I dont see it as arthouse.

Absolutely was worth the nomination and winning it too. Perhaps not #20 movie of all time but like I said the IMDB top 250 is nowhere near a definite collection of great movies.

Had this film been made more realistically perhaps it would have wowed me. It was too incredulous. The settings were top notch, but the story was told with a comedic flare and that was what lost me.
There are similar films that depict economic differences, with more realism and if this film did that I would rank it much higher.
It wont be memorable in a year or so. Unlike some films like Buitiful or Fish Tank, that are more realistic, and many Indie films that are top notch.

I gave it a 6/10. Not a good film but not bad either. A very typical example of the type of mediocrity that wins you the Oscar for best films these days.
