I just watch Christopher Reeve Superman 1 or 2 when I want to see a real Superman film. I dont think they will ever be topped. My kids feel the same and they have watched some of the newer stuff. They are 12 and 14 but both basically agree Reeves IS Superman and the other stuff is just crappy knockoffs.
Kinda tough to beat Brando and Glenn Ford as Dad along with people like Hackman as Lex Luthor. Kidder was basically perfect casting for Lois Lane as well. Reeves of course was the perfect actor for the Character on every level.
None of them really my favorite all time actors (other than Glenn Ford on that list) but fair is fair and Richard Donner was absolutely perfect along with many of the "team" involved in those films. Good lord.. the Soundtrack alone is absolutely legendary. John Williams gave us one of the greatest scores of all time in Superman and nobody even talks about it anymore.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. It's not because I feel in love with Reeves as Superman. He generally played the part the best. He added humanity, humility, morals and sound judgment to the character.
All the other Superman movies lack good writing and well developed supporting characters.
Personally I've no interest in Superman, although I'm interested in some of the other heroes they're using it to introduce into this new universe. I doubt I'll pay to see it.
