Novelty Film and not a Franchise Starter

So far this entry hasn't been as enthusiastically received as implied after the opening weekend.

Ryan Reynolds is carrying the film by being Ryan and audiences enjoy his humor. But Pokemon isn't pulling in any specific demographic. What gives?

The whole parade-turns-evil-gas-thing @ the end kinda reminded me of Batman (1989)...
I did kind of enjoyed the gritty atmosphere of the cityscape but probably would not see Pikachu again.

Also one of the minions movie. It even has the same color, purple.

The demographic would be those who were little kids when the cartoon series became big in the USA. Now they are a little older and want to see something a little bit more grown up, but not "dark and gritty" like so much of the depressing movie wasteland out there.
