The bad news is season two doesn't start until Fall 2018! ARGHHHH! I feel major withdrawal symptoms coming on.

Yeah... oh well, may be time to re-watch DS9 or one of the other series...

The change is most likely down to scheduling issues and gives the broadcaster the chance to air the entire series this calendar year, rather than leave a few episodes hanging in mid-December when all the other series have stopped airing new episodes.

One would think that is a good thing. If given a choice to watch a new episode or a rerun, one would think the new episode would be preferred.

12 episodes? I bet FOX still charges for a full season on blu ray.
