walking up the steps (Spoiler)

When he was pretending to be crippled and saying he lived at the top of the stairs and was struggling to get up and she turned to her "grandson" and said "This is ridiculous". That was just for the audience's sake, as the "grandson" knew exactly what was going on and that he was faking it.

Well yeah, obviously, but he had to play the part of the suspicious grandson, just as she she was playing the part of a naive and gullible (and highly accommodating) woman.

Maybe she meant, "This is ridiculous. All this trouble. We should just shoot him in the balls right here and now, tell him why we did it and then leave him to bleed to death."
