What was the point of Javi beating up his old prefessor?

That had literally no point in being included, it never comes back into play, Javi dies directly after it happens, i'm just confused why it was even included.

reply

I think it was because the professor didn't respect him or the family name while in college.

I mean i get why Javi the character did it, i'm not wondering why Javi beat him up, i'm wondering why it was included in the episode, it wasn't connected to anything else, we never saw the professor again and then Javi dies after it happens. It was a pointless scene.

My interpretation is that it was to illustrate how people involved in Cartel, or any other illegal business life, will never be respected.

No matter how much money they make, they’ll never be seen as respectable citizens that mainstream people will want to be associated with.

With Javi, he dies knowing that getting a degree and all that money did not win him respect. He would be forever tainted as a member of the Cartel.

reply

Yeah that makes sense, although i feel like that point was made when he was talking to Shaw and she talked about not wanting his name associated with her business and he said to use his mothers name cause she was clean or something like that. I already got the idea that his name was tainted due to being a cartel member.

It just felt like a scene that could've easily been cut and nothing would've been lost and the story wouldn't have been affected at all.

Honestly I think they just left it in there to continue to show how much of a reckless asshole he is and so the viewer wouldnt be at all upset with Ruth for screwing up the plan with the Cartel and Claire which would essentially free the Byrdes.

reply

To remind us that he's a bad person, so we won't feel bad when Ruth shoots him in cold blood.
