Does this trivialize the problem of alcoholic parents?

My best friend from childhood came from an alcoholic household and his life was ruined by it. Endless fighting between the parents, a filthy home, poor nutrition, neglect, inappropriate situations and general parental abdication of responsibilities... Not a laughing matter at all.
