Idaho Drifter/Govt. Cover

I took the scene dealing with the DNA....Dixon.....and the new chief to be that somebody within the government told the chief that they do not or should not look at the drifter guy as the suspect. Two excuses....not his DNA and out of the country. All under the umbrella of being classified.

I thought it also showed the black, new chief who the audience embraced as being the person to clean up the local mess turned out to be a patsy for the government to cover the tracks for the drifter guy.

Just my take.

That's what I thought too. McDormand has kicked up such a stink, that some one up above had taken notice, but instead of sending a man in to get to the bottom of it, they sent a man in to make sure it stayed buried.

Well damn i'll rewatch that scene.

I didn't get that impression but it's certainly a viable possibility.

I was leaning that way too.. to the tune of, when the new Chief told Dixon he wasn't the guy, my reaction was yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, right?!?

I like your theory - but because I like it so much, the movie goes down a point for me, I needed that revenge/vengeance ending. I needed it.
