Please Sell me on the show...

I was extremely excited about this show....My favorite Genre/type of movies are where a detective/person is trying to catch a serial killer/killer(Se7en, Silence Of The Lambs, Zodiac, True Detective Season 1).....

when the show debuted, I watched the first 2 episodes and enjoyed them, but got busy and could not continue watching....

I now want to go back and finish the series but just cant get motivated, I liked the first 2 episodes but didnt love them, I'm now finding it very hard to get motivated to start watching again...

could someone please sell me and give me reasons why I should start watching again, hopefully hearing your opinions on the show will get me excited again and I'll hear something that will motivate me to start watching again

thanks

I'm gonna do the opposite of sell you on it. Save your time and use it doing something else. Something you like. Especially if you can't get motivated to watch it. No reason to suffer through something you don't wanna do anyway.

The pacing of the show is not really tight. It tries too hard to be atmospheric and such doesn't move the story along much because it's working so hard to give you a 'feeling'. It looks at the late 19th century through modern eyes instead of trying to be true to the time period. The detective work doesn't really take center stage in this show so you don't really see the characters thinking and figuring stuff out and saying why something is done the way that it is.

I've never read the book that this is based on, but it might be better and quicker to just read the book.

Exactly this. I couldn't finish even the first episode because they were laying it on pretty thick. Just once I would like to see a period drama where the protagonists have period values. By all means, let them be progressives, let them be feminists... but let them be so relative to the era they are supposed to live in, not 21st century.
