So after the monster was killed, did the people who had been "absorbed" come back?

I think they were dead, permanently. The thing was, two of the worst guys from the newspaper were included, so that isn't necessarily a bad thing. For everyone else, it's kinda tragic.

I love happy endings, but all that flesh coming back to form those people as they were, would be very contrived
