Meaning over happiness. She was probably looking for someone pathetic in order to have someone who would rely on her alone.

He's from a powerful family. He's not working in the private sector because he can afford to work what he likes.

I agree that she is better looking than him but some women don't care about that. Most likely she married him becuz he is ambitious, smart & becuz they also have similar interests (especially a certain naughty fetish). ;-)

it's not easy to find a life partner with whom to buld the kind of relationship they have specialy on the sexual front.

not very easy to find a guy who is ambitious, power hungry, but has no problem with his wife being the money provider of the family.

This will probably surprise you but after they turn 30 a lot of women go for character rather than looks

The entertainment biz is biased against average or unattractive women. The only parts they seem to get are mother/grandmother type roles or cranky secretaries. When it comes to casting roles for couples, only attractive women need apply.

Men are allowed to be less attractive. So, we get unrealistic portrayals of couples with an attractive woman and an ugly man. IRL, an appearance mismatch does occur sometimes but not that often.

I am no social justice warrior but these are the facts. There have been dozens of attractive women who had good careers in films and TV who have been shunted aside for no other reason than they started to age a bit.

reply

I agree she's waaaaay too attractive for him, and they're a total mismatch. She was Don Draper's mistress for awhile in MM and so maybe I expect her to be attracted to Don Draper types. Seeing her with a bad tempered schlub just seems ridiculous. An slightly dowdier actress like Betsy Brandt from B Bad would've been a better match. But I guess leading ladies have to be gorgeous.

It’s that super deep voice. Studies show that people are more attracted to low husky voices.

I can only assume you are young. That physical attraction nonsense will wear off eventually and you'll long for someone who you can hold a decent conversation with and who can also make you laugh.

reply

I can only assume that you’re oblivious to the huge lack of respect and communication between them. He lies to her. He places his career above their marriage, and then, not surprisingly, lies to himself that he’s not doing that. Let’s leave the size of his gut and the flab of his body aside. She is quite emotionally intelligent and he is emotionally stunted. Maybe that combination makes for great S/M. It doesn’t make for an intimate relationship that has any kind of future.

And, not for nothing, while it’s true that maturity brings a wider perspective to what we look for and value in a mate, looks never stop mattering. His gut has got to make squishy sounds when they are physically intimate, and that’s just ewwww. There is nothing that is in the least nonsensical about physical attraction, unless one has none to offer.
