Wow! This movie just vanished!

This was all the rage at last year's Sundance, talks of Oscar sweeps and all of that, then poof. Into thin air. A blink-and-you'll-miss-it run at the box-office. A complete and utter flop. Now, no one even remembers it, hopefully Nate Parker will disappear completely as well. Barry Jenkins, Denzel and Viola, and the cast of Hidden Figures beat him at the game he thought he'd win without a fight. Good riddance.

Yep, I finally saw the film, and can confirm it was not even that good. It was OK but I wouldn't even consider it Oscar even if there were no allegations. and with the allegations..and the fact that he invented an entire rape scene in the film against Nate Turners wife which never actually happened..when he himself was a rapist in real life and got away with it...is just super creepy and also poor filmmaking when you add in bs that didn't happen in a supposedly historical film. They also killed white children and even babies in the uprising and yet none of that is shown...again "blackwashing" what actually happened in favor of producing some kind of positive "image" of the man...instead of the truth. Not a great film and the director is an even worse human being who just does not get it and probably never will. He needs to face this punishment as that is the only way some people learn. (many inmates and other rapists for example.) I hope he never directs again.

The initial buzz from Sundance died down once word got out how corny and ham-fisted the movie is.

I remember there being a lot of hype about this but it went out like a candle after people realized how mediocre it actually is.
