The alarm at the end

Why did the blind man go crazy at the end when the alarm went off? Is it supposed to be like, he's blind so his hearing is so good that it he can't deal with it? Because that's stupid, blind people don't become incapacitated and crazy at loud noises. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie, but that scene really took it down a notch for me.

I thought the same thing.Going crazy was unnecessary. The alarm would have been enough. If the girl would have just taken advantage of the alarm sound, the old man for once wouldn't have heard where she was. That would have opened the door to some cool stuff, given that the writers would have had some imagination.

This was what I was thinking...it actually causes him to "lose" the battle.

You missed the point.

The blind man went crazy because with the alarm it was inevitable the authorities to go to his own house. Therefore they should caught him having dead bodies in his house and as well a cave with many evidences he kidnapped the woman and/or that he was an insane man.

His plan to proceed without getting noticed at all failed after that moment and he seriously risked going to prison.

Funny thing is that he shouldn't have install the alarm in the first place if he can't stand the alarm sound. Also if any intruders set the alarm on police will come to his house & check the basement.
