Why not send Thanos 1000000 years into the future?

Exactly. Send him into the past or the future and all you've done is remove yourself and the other heroes from the effort to stop him. He gets the stones then, uses the time stone and .....right back at it. Maybe even worse because now there would be TWO sets of stones and Thanos could make a matching glove.
