...and the real woman was far more complex than this idiotic movie. She had a devoted following of many of the big names in music at the time — and not people who needed her patronage. Her unconscious parody was the toast of the trendy set. Although, yes, many found her to be the vocal equivalent of fingernails on a blackboard.
