Deputy Hawk

It’s been 25+ years since season 2 aired. Michael Ontkean wasn’t in season 3, so how come deputy Hawk wasn’t promoted to sheriff?

reply

Isn’t sheriff an elected position?

reply

Fuck if I know. I’m not sure how that works, but if that’s the case, Sheriff Harry Truman was on medical leave, right? So wouldn’t the deputy sheriff take his place while he’s sick?

reply

There isn't really an in world reason why that wasn't the case.
The real reason is because David Lynch originally wanted Robert Forster for the role that went to Michael Ontkean in the original series, so he shoehorned him into the revival in a rather clumsy fashion.

reply

Yeah that’s kinda what I suspected. I didn’t realize Lynch wanted Forster originally (can’t imagine anyone but Ontkean as sheriff truman), but I figured he just wanted Forster for the part. I don’t usually look for sound reasoning when it comes to Twin Peaks, but this one bugged me. I felt like Hawk got shafted, and Hawk as sheriff could’ve been an interesting shift for the show.

reply

Because hawk was native American...
