Having the helmet, gauntlet and plasma caster lock-onto targets and fire by themselves made the Predator's look like faggots.

So, they rely on technology, not skill, to not only hunt but DEFEND themselves? Weak...

I agree the whole auto targeting auto firing doesn't feel canon to me. I think that was thrown in the plot so that the humans could use the technology and make the plasma canon less predictable It was done as a lazy plot tool.

Indeed. In the first we actually felt hunted. This one they weren't really hunted. The finale felt like a run through the local park at night. Kind of reminded me of playing spotlight in the boy scouts.

Perhaps that's how the alien tech works in the hands of a human - Unwieldily, unpredictable, and imprecise. The Predator's red beam (crosshair) certainly suggests that the cannon is being aimed when they're using it in full gear.
