Good film for such a troubled production

Considering the filmed changed its director and script, as well as suffering through reshoots, I thought the film turned out quite well ... better than "Rogue One", which went through the same process.

It wasn't great and not really worthy of iconic character like Han Solo, but it was still well-executed lightweight entertainment.

Ron Howard deserves a lot of credit for salvaging it, despite the film being a commercial disappointment.

The only time you can tell there were reshoots was at the very end, when you could really tell. The body language of the actors is almost always a giveaway.

But you're right. It's surprisingly good considering the circumstances.

You could see a few of the jokes / character banter from the original directors, too, but I doubt I would have noticed them if I hadn't been reading about the production dramas.

He didn't salvage anything, the movie was fucking terrible! That damn droid, L3! And I actually walked out during the Kessel Run, it was so stupid and boring.

reply

I was actually expecting more of L3: for her to have more "attitude" and a deeper relationship with Lando. Instead, she delivered a few lukewarm jokes and died. Like a lot of things in "Solo", the character was overhyped.

I had zero expectations for the Kessel Run (I'm not a big "Star Wars" fan), so it didn't bother me.

I thought it was OK. I mean, it didn't suck, despite its issues.

reply

Did you walk back in after that to see the end?

reply

No. I left Disney Star Wars for good that afternoon. Never more will I see that kind of CRAP.

reply

It wasn't a good film at all, but I was surprised that it wasn't terrible - I think that's the sentiment most people share.

reply

I disagree, I thought "R1" was a good solid action film, and "Solo" was no better than passable.
