The cast was one of the most surprising things about the movie for me: Travolta, Kate Bosworth, Julie Benz, and unrecognizable versions of Sharon Stone and Devon Sawa.

Not bad for a film like this.

Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It's what I privately term a "slice of life" movie: one that gives a glimpse into often-overlooked lifestyles. Travolta gives a beautifully understated performance in this.

I wouldn't really call it a "slice of life movie" since there is too much dramatic plotting for that, but I get what you mean about often-overlooked lifestyles. It was interesting to get this peek into the life of lineman, a profession I know very little about. It's very clearly a lineman's movie in the way that The Guardian (another movie I watched recently) is very clearly a movie for Coast Guardsmen.

I do tend to enjoy movies like that and I wish we had more of them. With the storm at the end, it also reminded me a bit of Twister and how that movie opened a little window to the world of storm chasers.

I can't say I'm nearly as enthusiastic as you are about the movie, but it was better than I thought it would be. It was at least interesting to see a movie dedicated to a career that most people don't think about, being a lineman. I do, however, wish there was more time spent showing these guys doing lineman's work.

Travolta is at a strange point in his career though, now almost exclusively doing these straight-to-video films.

It's not horrible but for a cast with this many well known actors, I was expecting it to be a little better. I mean, it's basically a blue collar version of soap opera style crap, would have been better if the characters were a little more likeable but they're just not.

I think the current IMDB rating of 5.2/10 is about right. It has a pretty good ending though. And for the most part, you get a peek into the world of power-line work but without the risk of getting electrocuted. lol...
