Why do writers just make stuff up? Minor rant.....

I don't know about anyone else, but I would be embarrassed as a writer if I just made stuff up. Especially when it comes to technical things or established factual things.

For example, there is a later episode dealing with fingerprints and Bosch and the examiner talk about 11 "points" (Galton details, points of identification, et cetera) and that that is not enough for an identification. The US does not use a set number of "points" for ID and hasn't for a very, very long time. Some parts of the discussion were right on and quite accurate (which creates a wonder how the writer pulled the "11" number out of his or her ass).

And then the continued "Lone Wolf" detective/cop BS.

I don't care. It isn't a documentary about police procedures.

I'm way more disturbed that a seasoned cop like our hero would not only choose to carry his duty piece as well as backup mags all along his back, which 1. must hurt like heck whenever riding in a car, but 2. is also the least accessible place one can have a lifesaving device while in said mode of transport, but also 3. he uses a non-retention holster in a very non-defensible position, so any shmoe can just grab it before he has time to react. I'd much rather have him carry all that in front in an appendix-style retention holster. Yeah, and that fingerprint thing too.
