Jody was an idiot for surrendering.

He was an absolute fool to come out of that cellar defenseless. He should have known full well that putting himself at the mercy of someone he already knows to be a ruthless killer & whose balls he just shot off was 100% suicide. His best play by far would have been to pop out of that cellar blasting with both pistols. He would have at least had a chance.

It's been a while since I watched it but didn't Warren threaten to shoot Daisy if he didn't surrender? I thought that is why he surrendered to begin with.

reply

Yes but she was on the other side of the room & it was established that Jody could determine where the people above him were positioned. Common sense would have told Jody that his enemies had zero incentive to not just kill them both anyway, making surrender pure suicide & that the best calculated risk would have been to come out of the basement blasting in their direction.

Yeah well I'm glad the movie didn't end that way since Daisy and him were the bad guys.

Jody was an absolute fool, but I think that was the point

Warren and Mannix were the smartest characters in the film, so it makes sense that they could outsmart him so easily by pushing his hot-button, i.e., his desire to protect his sister

I also suspect Jody was thrown off-balance when Warren made him give up his second gun. At a certain point, an "owl hoot" like Jody will just surrender and hope for the best, lacking the ability to come up with any other options.

TLDR: Warren and Mannix were too smart to fall for anything Jody could cook up, and Jody knew it.

Oddly enough, something that was always in the back of my mind about this scene that is even more stupid/nonsensical than Jody surrendering is why the hell didn't Jody keep shooting Warren through the floor until he was dead? There was literally zero reason to stop shooting. I looked it up and apparently that's how the scene originally played out in original the script where Warren is shot repeatedly by Jody & killed. In retrospect, it seems the only reason there's a brief time jump/ scene change is so the movie doesn't have to show the nonsensical events that would have had to take place during that time.
