American audiences please boycott this

broadchurch was a huge success in America. It was both on BBC America and PBS, it got great reviews in the American press and ratings. we've already seen this its so stupid to have a remake of it. We need to send a message to the studios that we hate remakes and that they should just play the original. this is so unnecessary.

What is next, Americanizing Agatha Christie? I guess for those who missed the original, and for some reason cannot rent or borrow DVDs, this might be adequate. The original, it's locale, cast, and all the rest, are so well done, that I have no interest in this version, and I am an American.

reply

I'd like to but I'm afraid I'm too curious. I'm a huge Tennant fan, loved him as The Doctor and Broadchurch was awesome! When I heard it was coming to America I totally hoped he would be Alec Hardy running from his past and finding a new case in the US, but no. I HATE that it's a remake and even more that he will be an American, but I have to watch it. Americans couldn't handle the accent, but I have been watching BBC since I was 5 years old on channel 2 and have no problems with these accents, not even Welsh! LOL. So I have to watch it and I know you all will too.

reply

I agree with you. As far as accents go, I watch almost nothing but british programs now on hulu and netflix, american tv has a very poor record with adaptations, "Life On Mars" being a prime example and I liked the american version until I saw the original

reply

Uh Kevin Zeggers is in this show, not happening.

I don't hate remakes either but this one is completely pointless. Not only is this a remake of a show from last year, but unlike remakes like Being Human it is adding nothing to the original and isn't coming up with any of its own material. It's just a scene for scene remake with a much worse actress in the female lead.

reply

"Much worse actress in the female lead" being Anna Gunn, who was stellar on "Breaking Bad"?

I see...

Anna Gunn alone would make this show worth checking out!

You can ALWAYS count on anglophiles to be smug self important morons. I especially get a out of how oblivious to irony anglophiles are.

I watched and loved BroadChurch. I put GracePoint on and so far, it is screen for screen identical. I have already seen this. Ok to the boycott for me.

Well, I never got into Broadchurch. I thought it a good production but it didn't have whatever it is that grabs me in a series.

But this SUCKS. It is a criminal waste of a spectacular cast and gorgeous production. The trouble is, the people are all horribly unlikeable, and the characterizations and dialogue are all so painfully trite that I am hearing a good 50% of the lines in my head before they're spoken (at this, it is at least beating The Killing, in which I regret to say I accurately and appallingly predicted every single line every time I tried it). I am not particularly good at this and I am not even doing it on purpose; it's that the show is just that bad at it.

So by default, I'll be joining you. My God, this is awful.

NFL, Catholic Church - same thing!
