When did Mystique birth Nightcrawler

Mystique is Nightcrawler’s biological mom, so she must have conceived and given birth to him at some point in between First Class and Days of Future Past based on his age in Apocalypse. I’m surprised this plot point wasn’t explored more deeply, especially with Mystique being conflicted about her pregnancy, her relationships with Azazel and Beast, and giving up Nightcrawler after he is born.

I assume she got pregnant with him sometime between the end of First Class and Days of Future Past. The Demon guy on the team in First Class is who his father is in the comics. So my assumption is sometime after First Class the 2 of them got into a romantic relationship and then after Magneto was arrested and imprisoned for killing JFK, she gave birth to him. Then she had to give him up for adoption.

Yeah, it feels like there should have been another movie between First Class and Days of Future Past. They could have had her and Azazel develop a relationship in that movie or maybe she has sex with him as a rebound from leaving Beast and didn’t expect to become pregnant.

And you've got to admit. It is very rare for a woman to get pregnant after having sex with in a mainstream American movie.

It seems like it actually makes the sex in movies have more of a reason to exist if the female character becomes pregnant. Like it is cool to see an intense makeout or sex scene but it seems unnecessary if it doesn’t serve a real purpose or drive the plot in some way. Like the best sex scenes from a movie perspective seem to be the ones where the sex leads to the pregnancy with an alien, demon, or monster (eg Species, Rosemary’s Baby) or the ones where it’s revealed in a later movie that the characters having sex actually conceived a child (eg Indiana Jones, Superman).

The movie versions of these characters aren't mother and son. The X-Men movies can be pretty far removed form the comics.

Wonder why they had Mystique and Azazel together at the end of First Class if they weren’t at least alluding to them being the parents of Nightcrawler.

reply

I think it was more to emphasize how Mystique joined Magento’s squad and turned evil. Not that much came from that set up by the next film but that’s also a weird thing the later X-Men movies did. At any rate, Azazel was said to have died and Mystique met Nightcrawler a few movies later with no implications of anything.
