Future Magneto

I think it would have been cool to have fit him in here as well somewhere. I like that the film was a swan song for Xavier and Wolvie as they have been the mains since the beginning, but Ian McKellen was as well. He kind of made up the trinity of main characters.

reply

I agree. That would have perfectly bookended the whole saga.

reply

Seriously. His character had the first scene of the series. I also just think he never got a proper sendoff. They gave him almost nothing to do in DOFP

reply

It would make sense for him to be there... But I'm not quite sure how. Maybe he would have reconciled with Charles and spent their last years together, but he would still have violent/ humanist (?) tendencies even in his old age. Or something.

reply

His enormous power is a problem that would affect the plot. But there's all kinds of ways around that.

reply

I didn't necessarily mean his power, since that could have decreased over time. But more his personality and how he almost always has mutant followers.
Then again, faced with mutant extinction, it's possible that he might have committed suicide rather than live in a world overrun by humans....

reply

I see. Yeah, he's never come across as a character who would kill himself regardless. But he could have easily taken Caliban's place in this film, albeit without taking all of Wolvie's crap. I did like Caliban in this though

reply

That would definitely have been interesting. Magneto did seem to have a close bond with Charles, however twisted and complicated it was. I can just see Magneto twisting Logan's metal limbs or making him fly out the window or something whenever he gets angsty or irritable. 😂
I didn't quite get why Caliban was there in the first place. They could have picked someone with a better relationship with Logan/Charles. But then he couldn't be used against them, so whatever. He was an interesting character regardless.

reply

They could have made a flashback scene of Charles killing Magneto and others with his seizure. That would have been much better than trying to hear him mumble about it.

reply

If that's what even happened. A flashback would have been useful either way.

I prefer a Magneto movie with Michael Fassbender prior to Fist Class as a James Bond-ish character.

reply

That could be interesting. I liked Fassbender better than Ian McKellen as Magneto anyway. I just couldn't stop seeing the older version as Gandalf.

reply

Magneto has a very interesting background. How was he released or was freed from the NAZIS? What happened to him after? Also Magneto had the most badass entrance in First Class, people loved his James Bond persona, it would be interesting to focus on that. And Fassbender is still young enough to be able to pull off a prequel spin off like that.

I also prefer Fassbender over McKellen's Magneto tbh.

reply

He probably just broke out using his powers once he had a chance. Or maybe he escaped when the war was going downhill for Germany.

reply

I like them both. But Fassbender has been given a lot more to work with in his time as Magneto. Mckellen deserves one more shot, and I'd rather see what became of him in the future than another prequel.

reply

I liked them both as well, just Fassbender better. And I'd be open to a prequel and/or a sequel; I'm flexible. ;3
